The Attorney General’s Office filed criminal charges yesterday against five men, including a government employee, for allegedly peddling marijuana in Garapan.

Assistant attorney general John H. Eaton identified the defendants as Miguel Lieto, who earlier told the Superior Court judge Juan T. Lizama that he works for the CNMI’s Agriculture Division; George Luis Chamoki, Daniel Lieto Kalen, Edwin S. Kileleman, and Freely Ringlen.

The defendants all face two counts of trafficking of a controlled substance and a count of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.

Eaton alleged in the criminal information that the defendants possessed marijuana with the intent to distribute it in Garapan, within 1,000 feet from the premises of the Garapan Elementary School. Eaton alleged that the offenses were committed sometime from Nov. 8 to 10.

The defendants appeared in court Monday for a bail hearing, following their arrests pursuant to court warrants. The judge imposed a $60,000 bail on each of the defendants. (John Ravelo)
