NMC offers 50-percent off on tuition for govt workers
Gov. Juan N. Babauta urged government employees to avail of the half-price tuition offered by the Northern Marianas College to students working in the public sector.
In a Nov. 30 memorandum, Babauta announced that NMC is again offering a 50-percent discount in per-credit tuition to all government employees enrolled at the college.
The Government Employees Professional Development Assistance Program was implemented starting last year to encourage civil servants to further their education.
“I want to encourage all employees of the government to take advantage of this opportunity for further their education [at] the Northern Marianas College. No matter what your current level of education, learning more will inevitably assist you in the work you do in providing services to the public,” Babauta said.
The governor also called on government managers to recognize the benefit of having better educated employees by allowing employees who want to take courses at NMC during working hours to use their annual leave for this purpose.
“If the future economic development of the Northern Mariana Islands depends on the educational attainment of people, then it is the responsibility of each of us to make use of the opportunities for further education that are available to us,” Babauta said.
He reminded interested individuals that registration for the 2005 spring semester is open until the morning of Jan. 15.
NMC announced earlier that government employees interested in availing of the program must have proof of ineligibility to receive CNMI scholarship grant and federal financial assistance.
The program benefits are applicable to regular NMC courses only. Community program courses and outreach programs do not apply.
All interested individuals must pay for all applicable institutional and course fees as listed on the registration form. Payments must be made in accordance with the college office policies.
