A total of 21 individuals believed to be involved in a crime ring were taken into custody Friday night after investigations conducted by various agencies led to warrants being issued for their arrest.

According to Department of Public Safety spokesman PO2 Eric F. David, 16 of the detainees were held in connection with burglary and theft and felony and theft incidents in San Antonio and Gualo Rai area.

David said 15 of the individuals were minors, one of whom was a female. All were detained at the Juvenile Detention Facility. The other, Alafonso Oncho, was detained at the Adult Correction Facility in Susupe. Bail was set at $15,000.

The investigation was headed by Thief Apprehension Selection Coalition detectives. The coalition comprises Criminal Investigation Bureau personnel, the Fire-Arson Investigation Unit, and Division of Youth Services Unit.

The operation also led to the arrest of five individuals believed to be involved in drug trafficking, courtesy of investigation conducted by the Special Investigation Section.

Arrested were Daniel L. Kalen, Miguel M. Lieto, Freely Ringlen, George Luis Chamoki, and Edwin S. Kileliman.

The suspects were held on $60,000 cash bail.

David said the individuals were involved in trafficking marijuana. The amount and value of the drugs were not disclosed.

David said Operation Street Sweep is conducted every month.

“Once we find out it’s a ring operation, we compile everything, get as much information leading to arrest, and once it’s reviewed, we give the matter to a judge and he signs document for arrests,” he said.

David said a review hearing was held yesterday morning regarding the burglary, felony, and theft crimes and that several may have been released on property bond.

Those charged with drug trafficking, however, remain in jail.

David said the cases were worked on for about four months.

The TASC is headed by operational supervisor Hillary Tagabuel.
