While the players of the Shell Chiefs and the Verizon Nitro were tackling each other in the championship game of the 2004 Commonwealth Football League, organizing officials of the local gridiron were busy tackling domestic violence.

During the halftime festivities, CFL chairman of the board John S. Blanco and vice-chairman Anthony Guerrero presented Sister Carol and Lori Ogumoro of Guma Esperanza with a donation of $320 for the Domestic Violence Task Force.

The donation was made possible through the sales of ribbons during the White Ribbon Campaign. The ribbons signified men who were committed against domestic violence and were sold throughout Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Throughout the season, the CFL continued to support the Guma Esperanza by inviting them to open a concession stand at all of their games at the CPA Airport field. The funds raised by the stand provided much needed capital to the under funded shelter, and widely welcomed refreshment to fans and players alike on Saturdays throughout the season under the Saipan sun.
