Tinian’s Warriors rise above Saipan’s Eagles
After a season of bumps, set, and spikes, the crème de la crème of the Private Schools Volleyball League gathered at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium last Nov. 18 to determine if the title of the top team would go to Saipan or Tinian.
While there was no doubt that Grace Christian Academy would be named the champion, the only question that needed to be answered was if the champs would be the GCA Warriors from Tinian or the GCA Eagles from Saipan.
The first set spelled out what the Warriors’ plan was, as GCA Tinian won with ease by a score of 15-9. Every time the Warriors got the ball, they bumped it to A.J. Libut, who in turn set the ball to James Sanchez for the kill.
Sanchez put on an aerial display worthy of the professional level, as his powers of levitation proved to be too much for the Eagles.
In the second set, GCA Saipan put on a their own display of power, and at one point led by a 14-8 score over the Warriors. Unfortunately, the Eagles couldn’t pull off the final point to bring them even with their brethren from across the sea. The determined team from Tinian came back, and rallied until they took the lead and the game, 16-14.
With the victory, GCA Tinian is once again the champion of the Private School League, with GCA Saipan in second, Northern Marianas Academy in third, and Mount Carmel School in fourth.
