Members of the Saipan Chamber of Commerce yesterday elected a new set of officers, re-installing Alex Sablan as its president.

Sablan ran unopposed for re-election. When businessman Joe Ayuyu, who presided over the elections, opened the floor for nomination, Marianas Visitors Authority chairman David Sablan moved to close the nomination process and was duly seconded.

Ayuyu asked scores of Chamber members for a show of hands as to who among them favors the re-election of Alex Sablan, to which the crowd replied “I” viva voce. No one responded when Ayuyu asked the crowd as to who among them opposed the Chamber president’s re-election.

“I’m happy that the membership elected me again for the plans that I have [made] for the year and I [intend] to continue with,” the Alex Sablan said.

The election took place during the Chamber’s membership meeting at the Hyatt Regency Saipan’s SandCastle yesterday.

The Chamber also reelected Richard Pierce as vice president, who ran unopposed like Alex Sablan. Mike Johnson of Deloitte Touch & Tahmatsu also ran unopposed for the position of treasurer.

The Chamber conducted balloting for the position of secretary, with Triple J Motors general manager Jay Jones prevailing over Scott Norman of Calvary Christian Academy.

Five candidates slugged it out for three directorship seats, including Century Insurance president and MVA chair David Sablan, KCNM/KZMI general manager Harry Blalock, Jim Arenovski of Delta Management Corp., Bob Hudkins of Hertz, and Leonard Sine of Sine and Muna. The first three won the polls through balloting.
