Title week
Makos, Visminda-Country, Tinian Strikers, and Dandan Tottos all celebrated the sweet taste of winning a championship last week.
Makos became the most improbable winners of the 18-and-under basketball league after beating Sixers I in the championship of the 2004 Saipan Rotary Club Summer Youth Basketball League last Oct. 22.
Tinian Strikers and Dandan Tottos then wrapped up the four-week DFS Cup Soccer Tournament by winning their respective boys and girls divisions, and in sudden death shootouts no less.
Sunday then saw Visminda hoist the 2004 UFO-San Miguel Cup championship after defeating nemesis SIP-Verizon in Game 2 of their series.
On Monday, Ador Dimaano won the October edition of the Pepsi King of the Lanes Tournament with Emi Williams continuing her reign in the women’s division.
The 2004 Kids TRYathlon series also got going in Marpi last Oct. 23, while the 2004 Shell-Telesource Open concluded its singles and mixed doubles matches Thursday at the American Memorial Park tennis courts.
The week in sports also saw Shell Chiefs scalp Verizon Nitro in the Commonwealth Football League, the World Organized Rocball Interscholastic and Community League finish its elimination round, Saipan Softball Association games in the fast and slow pitch continue, and games in the 6th Annual Miller 4-Person Beach Volleyball League heat up at the Pacific Islands Club sand court.
