Army recruiters to visit Saipan’s high schools
Army recruiters from the U.S. Army Recruiting Detachment on Guam will be on island from Oct. 25 to Nov. 4 to visit high schools as well as conduct required tests necessary prior to enlistment.
“They will be available to answer any question people may have about joining the U.S. Army, including incentives like money for college, skills training, guaranteed pay and entitlements, travel, adventure, medical and dental care, 20-year retirement and much more,” the Army said in a statement.
The tests, formally known as the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery—ASVAB—would be conducted on Oct. 29 and 30 at the Army Reserve Center in Puerto Rico.
The first test will be conducted at 4pm, while the second test would be at 8am.
“All interested are encouraged to take the test, as another U.S. Army Reserve unit is going to be on Saipan. This will provide the opportunity for females as well as males to be in the Army Reserve in Saipan,” the Army said.
Qualifications include ages between 17 and 34 years old, and a citizen of the United States, Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, or is a permanent resident. A photo identification card is required prior to the tests.
Recruiters SFC Albert Abadam and Sgt. Felimarie Benavente will be staying at the Hyatt Regency Saipan Hotel and may be reached at 234-1234 for more information on qualifications or the tests.
Prior to their visit to Saipan, the recruiters may be contacted at (671) 477-7666, (671) 477-7330, cell phone (671) 687-3660, (671) 687-3540. Interested individuals may also contact the U.S. Army Reserve Center to reserve a test seat at 322-6680.
Last month, the Army Reserve successfully recruited 18 locals. The recruits were sworn in on Sept. 10 at the House of Representatives Chamber on Capitol Hill in front of local leaders, parents, and supporters.
Approximately 50 to 75 people from Saipan join the Army every year.
