Association for retired officers being pushed
The creation of an association comprising retired or former Department of Public Safety officers is currently on the planning stage and is expected to become a reality tomorrow, according to retired Maj. Raymond B. Camacho, who heads the organizing process.
“The main purpose of organizing this association is to see what we [retired or former officers] can come up with to help the department and the community,” Camacho said during an interview yesterday. “We’re veterans and are very knowledgeable on how the department works, so we’re going to try to assist…the department and the community.”
Camacho urges all retired or former police and law enforcement officers, as well as firefighters and Corrections officers to attend a meeting tomorrow, Oct. 21, at 5pm, at the DPS Police Academy in Susupe. The meeting will serve as a venue for discussing the creation of the association.
“We’re going to assist in any matter,” Camacho said. “Once it becomes a reality, then we can line down what we will be doing.”
The association will be formed to organize a body for all public safety officers; promote efficiency in public safety work throughout the Commonwealth; promote sound development and administration of laws; maintain the highest standards of ethics, integrity, honor, and courtesy in the public safety profession; encourage a sound, practical and thorough training of public safety officers; and cherish a spirit of brotherhood among its members and to perpetuate their memory in history of their calling.
