Love Boat captain Danny Agulto and his lone crewman Noel Cabrera were recognized, congratulated and commended in a resolution passed by the 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council for capturing first place in the mahi mahi category and third place in the yellowfin category during the recent 20th Annual Saipan International Fishing Tournament.

According to the resolution, the 20th Annual Saipan International Fishing Tournament finally kicked-off on Saturday, Sept. 11, at Saipan Smiling Cove Marina after being postponed due to super typhoon Chaba’s devastating effect in the CNMI.

Ninety-four boats from Palau, Guam, Rota, Tinian and Saipan participated in the challenge to catch the winning prizes in each category before the time deadline on Sunday, Sept. 12.

Agulto’s record in the bill fish category was set in 1997 and it weighed 624.43 lbs., while James Taitano’s record in the yellowfin category was set in 1990 and weighed 106 lbs. Both remain standing records in the tourney. Guam’s Charlie Cat boat captain Hoa Van Nguyen and anglers Jesus Curo and Quane Ly caught a monster marlin at 519.40 lbs.; and Grand V’s boat captain Ray Dela Cruz and anglers Joe Guerrero and Joe Reyes caught the biggest/heaviest yellowfin at 55.07 lbs.

The members of the Municipal Council and the people of the CNMI join John M. San Nicolas, president, and his Saipan Fishing Association members in extending special recognition, congratulation and commendation to captain Agulto and his Love Boat angler Cabrera for capturing first place in the mahi mahi category and third place in the yellowfin category at the 20th Annual Saipan International Fishing Tournament and wish them the best as they prepare for the 21st Annual Saipan International Fishing Tournament.

The Resolution was certified by chairman Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and Vice Chairman David A. Indalecio and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela.
