TENTATIVE SCHEDULE FOR ARBOR MONTH ACTIVITIES

The October committee has come up with activities to complement the declaration of Arbor Month. The Northern Marianas College Cooperative Research Extension & Education Services has accepted the proposal for Arbor Day activities. For the moment, these activities will be held at the Garapan Elementary School.

NMC-CREES will be providing one plant per classroom for them to adopt. All of the activities will be held in the quad area of the Garapan Elementary School.

The schedule will be as follows:

Thursday, Oct. 21

9am Kindergarten and 1st grade

10am 2nd grade

1pm 3rd grade

Friday, Oct. 22

9am 4th grade

10am 5th grade

11am 6th grade

CHACHA REPORT CARD DAY, OPEN HOUSE

This is to inform all parents, guardians, and the community that the Chacha Oceanview Jr. High School will be issuing first quarter report cards and having an open house on Friday, Oct. 22, between the hours of 3:30pm-5:30pm. This is an opportunity to discuss the academic progress of your child(ren) with their teachers this past quarter. We are strongly encouraging all stakeholders to come on this day.

KAGMAN HIGH REPORT CARD DAY, PTSA MEETING

This is to inform all parent/legal guardians of Kagman High School students that Report Card distribution and PTSA meeting will be on Thursday, Oct. 21, from 5pm to 7pm. We encourage all of you to come in and pick up your child/children’s report card and also, to attend the PTSA meeting.

OLEAI ELEMENTARY’S OCTOBER SCHEDULE

Oct. 21—Half-day class session and 1st quarter report cards distribution. Students will be released at 12:30p.m. 1st Quarter Report Cards Distribution & Parents/Teachers Conference will take place at OES campus from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. The students 1st quarter academic projects and experiments and other class work will be exhibited in the school cafeteria.

Oct. 22, 2004: Halloween Dance at the OES campus from 6pm to 8pm. Entry fee is $0.75 cents with costume and $1 without costume.

Oct. 29: STUCO Club Halloween Candy Gram Sale and Annual Domestic Violence Candle Light Vigil. The prices for the Candy Gram Sale orders range from .50, $1 to $3. The Annual Domestic Violence Candle Light Vigil will be from 5pm to 8pm. It will start at Micro Beach Pavilion to Paseo De Marianas, Garapan Street Market area.

CHUUKESE ELECTION RESET TO OCT. 20

This is to inform all Chuukese who are eligible voters in the CNMI that the special election scheduled for Oct. 14 has been moved to Oct. 20, Wednesday, from 7am to 8pm at Garapan Central Park (Round House). Contact your regional leaders for more information.

POSTER-MAKING AND ESSAY-WRITING CONTEST LAUNCHED

The Family Violence Task Force, along with the Domestic Violence Awareness Month Committee, is sponsoring a poster making and essay writing contest for 7th to 12th grade students of private schools.

Essay must be between 300 to 1,000 words. Posters must be on an 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper. Entries must illustrate/depict the theme, “ENOUGH! Domestic Violence R.I.P.”

Entries must be submitted by Oct. 15 at 3pm to the school official designated at the student’s school or to the submission box at Karidat in Chalan Kanoa.

When submitting your essay paper, make sure your name, grade and school is placed on a cover page and attached to your paper. When submitting your poster, make sure your name, grade and school is placed on the back of the drawing or on a separate cover sheet stapled to your entry.

Prizes for the winning entries will be awarded on Friday, Oct. 29, during the Candlelight Vigil Ceremony at the Paseo de Marianas, in Garapan.

OPA workshop reset

The Office of the Public Auditor would like to announce that the Government Accounting Training Workshop scheduled for Sept. 29 through Oct. 1, 2004, has been postponed. The new schedule for the workshop will be Oct. 18 through 20, 2004. OPA will contact all participants and provide notice of venue.
