Young artists get exposure in Youth Concert
Young artists will take center stage and showcase their talents today during the first Youth Concert at the Garapan Fishing Base across the Kristo Rai Church.
Hosted by the Youth Affairs Office, the concert is scheduled to kick off at 4pm and would conclude at 10pm. It will serve as a venue for exposing young musicians.
“The whole idea of the youth concert is to give the young and new artists a chance for public exposure,” said Youth Affairs director Florence Kirby. “It’s a chance for them to advertise themselves and to showcase their skills.”
Kirby said the concert would also feature veteran groups whose roles are to fill in as well as “encourage” the young artists. She said entertainment also includes dance performances.
As of press time, 12 groups have confirmed performing. Kirby said each group would be granted 30 minutes to perform.
“Once everyone in the line up has performed, then others who performed already can go back on stage and do it again,” she said. “It will be continuous.”
Among the groups already committed to taking part in the event are the KSS Pack of 3, JR Serenaders, Palapala Boys, Refalawasch Band, Ace Elameto, Tropic 3 Band, Whatever Band, Sons of Harmony, Saipan Southern High School, and a group headed by Sam Joyner.
Kirby said groups who have yet to register may still do so today.
“We’re still encouraging others to take part,” she said. “All young artists are still welcomed to register.”
The public is invited to witness the event and to show support for the up-and-coming artists.
Inclusive of the Youth Affairs Office, other contributors are the Karidat House of Manhoben, Division of Youth Services under the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, Mayor of Saipan Youth Center, Pacific Trading Co., the CNMI Youth Congress, and Rep. Ray A. Tebuteb.
