Attorney general Pamela Brown announced a reorganization of the Attorney General’s Office to strengthen immigration fraud enforcement.

Dr. Joe Race will lead this effort and be deployed as a special assistant to the chief of Attorney General’s Investigative Unit. The focus will be on fraud and those who are now unlawfully living within the CNMI.

“[Race] brings over 30 years of law enforcement experience and street smarts to this critical task,” said Brown. “We must increase our enforcement efforts to not only ensure that the laws are followed but also to protect tourists and other visitors to the CNMI.”

Race expressed enthusiasm for this new assignment. “At times you think you’ve seen it all. But this work is complex, challenging, and exciting. I’m looking forward to contributing my expertise and to working with and learning from my colleagues.”

Race earned his Ph.D. from his Pacific Western University and has an MA in Public Administration from Pepperdine University. In addition to working for the CNMI in positions including chief of AGIU, Race has served 16 years with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, formerly headed the FSM police and served as Police Chief in Medina, Washington.
