CHUUKESE ELECTION RESET TO OCT. 20
This is to inform all Chuukese who are eligible voters in the CNMI that the special election scheduled for today, Oct. 14, 2004, has been moved to Oct. 20, Wednesday, from 7am to 8pm at Garapan Central Park (Round House). Contact your regional leaders for more information.
VETERANS DAY MEETING TODAY
We would like to remind and invite all concerned and interested parties that the Office of the Military and Veterans Affairs will meet starting today, Oct. 14, 2004 at 3pm for the upcoming Veterans Day celebration. Meetings will be held every Thursday at 3pm at the Office of the Military and Veterans Affairs on Capital Hill, Bldg. #1364. All are welcome. HOPWOOD PTSA MEETING TODAY
The Hopwood Junior High School will be holding its monthly Parents Teachers Students Association meeting today, Oct. 14, 6pm-7pm, at the Mt. Carmel Social Hall (reserved but subject to change last minute due to unforeseeable circumstances.
Agenda includes Boxtops for Education, Book Fair, Cultural Day, and Parents Take Over Day.

KAGMAN HIGH REPORT CARD DAY, PTSA MEETING
This is to inform all parent/legal guardians of Kagman High School students that Report Card distribution and PTSA meeting will be on Thursday, Oct. 21, from 5pm to 7pm. We encourage all of you to come in and pick up your child/children’s report card and also, to attend the PTSA meeting.

POSTER-MAKING AND ESSAY-WRITING CONTEST LAUNCHED
The Family Violence Task Force, along with the Domestic Violence Awareness Month Committee, is sponsoring a poster making and essay writing contest for 7th to 12th grade students of private schools.
Essay must be between 300 to 1,000 words. Posters must be on an 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper. Entries must illustrate/depict the theme, “ENOUGH! Domestic Violence R.I.P.”
Entries must be submitted by Oct. 15 at 3pm to the school official designated at the student’s school or to the submission box at Karidat in Chalan Kanoa.
When submitting your essay paper, make sure your name, grade and school is placed on a cover page and attached to your paper. When submitting your poster, make sure your name, grade and school is placed on the back of the drawing or on a separate cover sheet stapled to your entry.
Prizes for the winning entries will be awarded on Friday, Oct. 29, during the Candlelight Vigil Ceremony at the Paseo de Marianas, in Garapan.

DPS TO HOLD SOBRIETY CHECKPOINTS SATURDAY
The Department of Public Safety Traffic Section announced yesterday that it would hold two sobriety checkpoints this Saturday, Oct. 16.
According to the Traffic Section, the activity is part of its efforts to deter and detect drunk drivers, as well as ensure that all vehicle occupants are protected.
The first setup will be on Beach Road Chalan Piao in front of the Hopwood Junior High School from 7pm to 8:15pm. The checkpoint will conducted for vehicles traveling on the southbound lanes.
The second setup will be on Monsignor Martinez Road in front of the JTV Building and will be set up for motorists traveling on the eastbound lane. Operation will begin at 9pm and conclude a 10:15pm.
The Traffic Section also indicated that officers will be performing highway criminal interdiction, aggressive driver interdiction, and laser activities.
Traffic Section is required to conduct a minimum of 12 sobriety checkpoints a year.
Statistics provided by the Traffic Section indicate that 254 DUI arrests were made in the first nine months this year, majority of which involved males.
