The long weekend didn’t start after work for everybody last Friday, as there was still some softball that needed to be played in the Men’s Island Wide Slow Pitch Softball League at the Oleai Sports Complex, and for the Brotherhood, Eliminators, and Bring It On, the long weekend was well worth the wait.

Brotherhood started off the night by shellacking Island Mix, 27-13, followed by the Eliminators eliminating Da Boyz, 38-19, and Bring It On doubling up on LaChai, 24-12.

The boys from Brotherhood had the Island Mix calling for mercy in the top of the fifth inning, but started to lay a beat down in the bottom of the second when they scored 10 runs to take the lead 15-6. They belted out another nickel in the third to improve their lead to 20-7, and piled on seven more in the fourth to make it 27-7.

Brotherhood amassed 28 hits, including 13 home runs in just four innings worth of offense. Payton Sakuma went 4-for-4 with four homers and seven RBIs while teammate Leo Bobai also went 4-for-4 with a single, a double, and a pair of dingers for four ribbies.

The second game of the night featured another smack down by the Eliminators, as they straight molly-whopped Da Boyz for 38 runs off of 36 hits compared to 19 runs off of 21 hits, in six innings of work.

Perhaps Da Boyz knew that they would be in for a long night when Roy Celis led off with a homerun to start the game for the Eliminators. If that wasn’t enough, the 9-run first inning might have made an impression.

Heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, the Eliminators held a comfortable 28-8 lead, but Da Boyz rallied with 11 runs to make the score 28-19 to extend the game into the sixth. The Eliminators answered by dropping a dime on Da Boyz, and that was all she wrote.

Celis was a single away from hitting for the cycle, as the rocket hit 6-for-6 with three homers, two doubles, and a triple to lead the Eliminators.

In the final game of the night, Bring It On brought their “A” game to the park against LaChai, and they doubled up on them, 24-12. The notorious B.I.O. did most of their damage while down 6-2 in the top of the third when they railed off 16 runs off of 13 hits, including six homers. From that point on, each team scored six runs apiece, and the mercy rule was invoked after the fifth inning.

“Big Vic D” led the charge with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate with a double, three homeruns, and five ribbies, while Audie Maratita went 4-for-4, cracked a pair of singles and a pair of doubles for four RBIs for Bring It On.

There’s plenty of more softball action on the way, as Slow Pitch returns tonight, and every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday starting with the first game at 6:30pm. The Fast Pitch hits the diamond at the same time on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you are interested in getting involved in the fast pitch or slow pitch leagues for this season, contact Robert A.
