‘High Energy’ weekends on Tinian and Rota
How much money could you save on your monthly utility bill by practicing energy conservation? Consumers can discover the answer to that and many questions more at the REACh Energy Fairs slated for Saturday, Oct. 16, 2002, on Tinian and Oct. 23 in Rota.
In observance of Energy Conservation Month, the Residential Energy Assistance Challenge (REACh) program of the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs is hosting consumer education fairs to teach families and other consumers about power consumption and energy saving products.
“Most people would like to reduce their utility costs, and this fair is designed to increase public awareness of ways to save energy and money through energy conservation,” said REACh Coordinator Linda Concepcion-Torres.
Vendors will be on hand to sell energy saving products, including compact fluorescent lights and Energy Star appliances. REACh, the DCCA Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), and Department of Public Works Energy Division will also conduct demonstrations.
The fair will be held this Saturday from 9am to 3pm at Kammer Beach on Tinian, in conjunction with the Kantan Isla Concert, also coordinated by DCCA. There will be free live entertainment onstage and food sold onsite.
Rota’s fair next weekend will be staged at the Office on Aging parking lot. A REACh Energy Fair for Saipan is also slated for November.
Vendors of energy conservation products or services may register to conduct demonstrations or sales at the REACh Energy Fair by contacting the DCCA REACh office at (670) 664-2576.
REACh is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and aims to promote public education on energy assistance and conservation, to promote understanding of budget matters families, and to help clients of the DCCA Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program achieve energy self-sufficiency.
