Dolphins sweep back on track at the PIC
The MHS Dolphins returned to the beach volleyball court at the Pacific Islands Club in top form on Thursday night to topple Shoot the Winkle in straight sets to get back on their winning ways in the 6th Annual Miller 4-Person Beach Volleyball League.
After falling to the Dragon Flares last Tuesday, the Dolphins faced some stiff competition when they ran into the Winkle, and they edged them 12-10 as the game was sent into extra points.
There was another nail-biter in the second set, but the Dolphins took that one as well, 11-9. In the third, the team from Marianas High hit their stride and wiped out the Winkles, 11-1. The Dolphins are now at 3-1 for the season and they will be back in action next Thursday, Oct. 14 when they try to peel the Bananas at 6pm, while Shoot the Winkle takes on Team Papalatung the same night at 9pm.
The same Team Papalatung faced off with the Clam Smackers in the second match of the night, and it was the Clams that had all of the chips in their corner in their 2-1 win. All three of the sets were close in the match up, but good teams always find a way to win the close ones.
The Clams smacked their way to victory in the first set by edging out the TP’s 11-8, but quickly found themselves in a 1-1 tie when Team Papalatung rallied to take the second set 11-9.
In the third, the Clam Smackers kept their pimp hands strong, and finished off the TP’s 11-8 to get the “W”. The Clams get back to smackin’ at 8pm on Thursday, Oct. 14, while Team Papalatung hits the sand on Tuesday, Oct. 12, against the Dragon Flares.
Flush It! and the Sleezy Lambleezies settled their differences in the third match of the night, and the team of undersized overachievers knocked off the SL Express 2-1 in three sets of high-powered action.
Flush It! made it look easy against the Lambleezies as they took the first set 11-8, and when they won the second 11-6, it was all over but the shouting. Of course there was no shouting at the PIC, but there wasn’t anything that could happen in the third set that would keep Flush It! from getting the win.
The FI guys and gals get back to action on Tuesday, Oct. 12, when they face Esemuoel at 7pm, while the Sleezy Lambleezies take on Tell Them Tom Braider Sent You on Thursday, Oct. 14, at 7pm.
In the final match of the night, that same Tell Them Tom Braider Sent You squad faced off against Machigainai! in a battle of teams with names that stray from the norm. On this night, Tell Them Tom Braider Sent You escaped with a win after rallying from behind to take the first and the third sets 11-7 and 11-8.
Though they lost for the second time in two contests, Machigainai! briefly celebrated their first won set of the season amongst themselves. Machiganai! will have until Tuesday, Oct. 12, to figure out what their name really means, because that’s when they will try to go ape against the Bananas.
All the side-outs you can handle will be doled out again next Tuesday, Oct. 12, at the PIC. If you would like further information about the 6th Annual Miller 4-Person Beach Volleyball League, contact Jon, Evan, Dennis, or Nan by calling the SEA office at 235-6231 ext. 5147.
