Beginning today, Shell retail stations on Saipan would serve gasoline at gallon prices higher by 5 cents, while that of diesel would soar by 13 cents.

Shell has increased its pump prices at least seven times since January this year, reflecting a cumulative gallon price adjustment of 42 cents.

The price increases followed those of Mobil, which initiated similar rate adjustments Wednesday.

Shell Marianas president Phil Stalker reiterated, though, that it would roll back pump prices once market conditions improve. Since the series of price increases took effect beginning January, however, no price rollback has taken place.

“The cost of crude oil has hit record levels. Market forces in Asia have forced a significant increase in the cost of refined product,” Stalker said in a press statement released to media offices early last night.

The press statement disclosed gallon prices of regular and premium gasoline and diesel would increase by 5 cents. The Shell gas station in Dandan disclosed, though, that the gallon price adjustment for diesel is 13 cents.

With the increases, Shell outlets now retail regular and premium gasoline at $2.599 and $2.699, respectively at self-serve rate. Yesterday’s full-serve rate of $2.659 and $2.749 would also increase by 5 cents beginning today.

According to the Dandan outlet, it retailed diesel yesterday at $2.649 per gallon. With the 13 cent-adjustment, the new price would be $2.779.

The Attorney General’s Office has been urging those who might have complaints against high prices of gasoline to file a formal complaint with it.

According to the AGO, complaints about gas prices could be sent by email to attorneygeneral@saipan.com or in writing to this address: Office of the Attorney General-Civil Division, Caller Box 10007, Capitol Hill, Saipan, MP96950.
