Dolphins suffer their first spill at PIC
The third round of beach volleyball at the Pacific Islands Club featured a couple of even matches and a pair of sweeps on Tuesday night, as the 6th Annual Miller 4-Person Beach Volleyball League returned for a second week of spikes, sets, and digs.
The Dolphins of Marianas High School fell for the first time in three games, dropping their overall record to 2-1 at the hands of the dreaded Dragon Flares. While the Flares were the first to reach 11 points in the first set, the Fins came back to take the second set 11-7.
The Flares were able to flip the score in the third set to take the victory, but the crew from MHS is bound to see some more success as the weeks go by. The Fins won’t have to wait very long, as they are right back in the tank against Shoot The Winkle tonight at 6pm. The Dragon Flares will have to wait until next Tuesday, Oct. 12 when they face Team Papalatung at 9pm.
In the second match up of the night, the Bananas went ape against Team Papalatung, taking two of three sets to earn the victory. The TPs edged out a 12-10 win in the first set, but there was nothing yellow about these Bananas, as they came back to take next two, outscoring the TPs 11-4 and 11-6.
The Bananas will have some time to ripen before they return to the court on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 6pm against Machiganai!, while Team Papalatung is right back at it tonight at 7pm against the Clam Smackers.
The word in the third was Machiganai! Though hardly anyone knew what it meant, the players on Flush It! weren’t distracted as they edged out the “what the heck does that mean?” 11-9 in the opening set.
After sitting idly by during the first week of action, Machiganai! took to the court in the second set to Machiga-lose 11-6, and 11-4 in straight sets. Both teams see action tonight, as Flush It! takes on the Sleezy Lambleezies at 8pm, and Machiganai! battles the Tell Them Tom Braider Sent You at 9pm.
In the final match of the night, Esemuoel tried to beat Bend It Like Megan, but instead got swept like Sammy, as the energetic bunch of benders took the Es 11-6, 11-6, and 11-2.
Both of the teams will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 12, as Esemuoel takes on Flush It! at 7pm, and Bend It Like Megan tries to beat on the Bill Bratzki’s at 8pm.
All the side-outs you can handle will be doled out again tonight at the PIC. If you would like further information about the 6th Annual Miller 4-Person Beach Volleyball League, contact Jon, Evan, Dennis, or Nan by calling the SEA office at 235-6231 ext. 5147.
