MVA readies for 2005 marketing campaigns
The Marianas Visitors Authority is now preparing to move into 2005 by producing strategic advertising campaigns and diversifying the tourism markets for the CNMI.
Faced with stiff competition in the global tourism market and the limited operating funds for marketing the CNMI, the MVA has designed PR events, overseas promotions and ad placements to further develop the CNMI as a destination of choice, actively pursuing every opportunity that would create a better awareness of the destination.
“The MVA will be taking every opportunity available to increase our destination’s attractiveness in the core travel markets such as Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, and the United States,” said MVA managing director Vicky Benavente.
MVA is currently operating under a continuing resolution budget for fiscal year 2005, which provided $3.7 million for marketing and advertising campaigns.
“By working with the businesses who are MVA members, who have a stake in the CNMI’s tourism industry, and in cooperation with other government agencies, the CNMI has a better advantage to compete with other destinations as a vacation choice for worldwide travelers,” Benavente said. “Although we are operating with the same funding level as the previous seven years, we have been careful to minimize expenses with operational activities, both in marketing and overall administration.”
‘“It is imperative that the MVA continue to develop strategic marketing campaigns and community programs that will entice visitors to come to our islands, and keep the CNMI residents informed of the importance of tourism. Tourism is everybody’s business and we all must understand how tourism works for the CNMI,” said Benavente.
