CNMI Women’s Basketball needs your help
After battling the best players on island in the 2004 Saipan Rotary Club Summer Youth Basketball League, the women of the CNMI national team played their final game before retooling for the Pacific Rim Tournament this November, and the Marianas High School Basketball Tournament in Guam next March.
According to their head coach Don Blondin, the team will be needing some new blood for both of the events, as the18-and-under team is lacking players. To help fill the ranks, Blondin will be holding tryouts at the Marianas High School Gymnasium next Tuesday, Oct. 12, from 6-8pm.
The first ever all-female team to compete in the Rotary league challenged the G-Rollers III at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium last night to complete a season of development, while gaining much needed experience.
“We learned how to play at a different speed, which is good, and some of them really stepped up,” said Blondin.
With a lack of competition in the area for the women, coach Blondin, had to improvise, so he brought his squad to challenge the boys of the Rotary league. For more information about the CNMI’s 18-and-under women’s team or their tryouts, contact Blondin by calling 234-0357.
