Sixers II won the battle of San Antonio’s second-tiered teams, topping 69ers II to the tune of 84-75 Monday night in the 2004 Saipan Rotary Club Summer Youth Basketball League at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

In the first game, defending champion Ol’Aces (5-4) defaulted their game against 69ers I (6-4) after not enough players showed up for coach Dexter Dillay.

Led by the hot hands of Rayner Ferrer and Manuel Ajoste, Sixers II (7-3) raced to a 40-32 lead at the half and it carried over in the second.

69ers II (2-8) main men Jake Maratita and Preston Basa tried their best to catch up with Sixers II in the second half but ran out of steam at the end.

Ferrer led all scorers in the game with 32 points and 6 boards. Ajoste chipped in 22 of his own and also dished out 4 assists. Ferdinand Palacios was awesome in the defensive end, swatting 9 shots, while Jason Bahillo ruled the boards with 14 rebounds.

Maratita paced 69ers II’s losing cause with 27 points. He also had 7 rebounds and 3 steals. This year’s IVYBL scoring champ Basa finished with 26 points and 2 blocks.

Sixers II 84 – Ray. Ferrer 32, Ajoste 22, Ja. Bahillo 10, F. Palacios 5, Je. Bahillo 4, Ran. Ferrer 4, Appelo 2, Kaipat 2, Eclevia 2.

69ers II 75 – Maraita 27, Basa 26, Pangelinan 8, Duenas 6, Arriola 3, Fujihira 2.
