Tinian Elementary to go cross-country
In keeping with the recent push for healthier modes of living in the CNMI, the Tinian Elementary School will be hosting its 2nd annual cross-country meet next week, sponsored by the school’s Parent Teacher Association.
Children under the age of 18 of will be broken into age groups and compete in the long-distance running events in hopes of winning medals and ribbons in front of their friends and family on Oct. 23, Saturday, 3pm.
“We hold this event to provide a wholesome healthy event for our children, we welcome all schools and organizations to participate,” said TES PTA President Jude Hofschneider
What sets this cross-country meet apart from standard events is that the parents of the competitors will be allowed to walk or run alongside their children.
The TES Physical Education committee is coordinating the event and the Northern Marianas Islands Track and Field Federation will be officiating. There is no entrance fee for the event, and registration opens at 1pm, with the first race beginning two hours later at 3pm.
The age groups into which the children will compete are 18-and-over, 17-and-under, 15-and-under, 13-and-under, 11-and-under, 9-and-under, and 7-and-under.
The distance for the children under 11-years-of-age will consist of a one-mile lap and a quarter lap around the campus, while all other age groups will run three laps or 2.6 miles.
Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers of each event and ribbons will be awarded to the remaining through seventh place.
In related news, NMITFF will hold a coaches clinic on Dec. 4, 9am-12pm, at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room for all school representative and coaches. The clinic will deal with the basic fundamentals of track and field. Tinian Elementary to go cross-country
