Local auto dealers continue to see growth in the industry as consumer spending on automobiles kept improving in the past months, resulting in some 1,218 vehicles sold in the CNMI for the year’s first three quarters.

The year-to-date total of sold automobiles jumped by 39.84 percent compared with the same period in 2003, which registered a total of 871 vehicles sold.

September sales performed positively, with the Commonwealth Auto Dealers Association reporting that the total 171 vehicles sold during the month increased by 29.55 percent compared with Sept. 2003’s 132.

The CADA had previously projected growth in auto sales, partly attributing it to aggressive marketing campaign and easy payment schemes.

Based on the year-to-date total, Toyota maintained its leadership as the most popular vehicle in the CNMI. Some 577 Toyota vehicles, most of them cars, were sold so far this year, CADA said. Toyota’s sales put its local dealer, Microl Corp. as the leading company in the industry in terms of sales.

Microl’s total sales reached 578; Joeten Motors, 366; and Triple J, 274.

Joeten’s Nissan automobiles are the CNMI’s second top seller, with a total of 163 units sold so far this year. Triple J’s Mazda brand is third, with 120 units sold so far, while the company’s Mitsubishi vehicles followed closely with its 97 total.

Toyota remained the top selling auto brand in September, which accounted for the 65 total units sold by Microl Corp.

For this month, however, Joeten tied with Microl in terms of sales. Sales totals for Nissan and Kia brands reached 37 and 18, respectively, significantly contributing to Joeten’s overall sales in September. Joeten also sold six Honda units and four Ford vehicles last month.

Triple J’s total sales for the month reached 41. It sold 19 Mazda and 17 Mitsubishi vehicles last month, besides three Hyundai and two Isuzu vehicles.
