Shell-Telesource Open starts next week

Shell Marianas and Telescource CNMI have joined hands to bring one of the biggest tennis events of the year.

Dubbed the 2004 Shell Marianas-Telesource CNMI Tennis Open, the tournament will kick off with doubles starting next Monday at the American Memorial Park tennis courts.

Organized by the Filipino-American Tennis Association, the tournament features men’s and women’s doubles in the first week starting on Oct. 11. Action in the men’s and women’s singles and mixed doubles then proceed the following week beginning Oct. 17.

Categories in the men’s doubles are 5.0, 4.5, 4.0, and 3.0, while women’s doubles will have only two divisions 5.0 and 3.0. Singles will have men’s 5.0, 4.5, 4.0, and men’s and women’s 3.0. Mixed doubles, meanwhile, will have 5.0 and 3.0 categories.

Entry forms for the 2004 Shell Marianas-Telesource CNMI Tennis Open are available at the AMP tennis courts bulletin board and Las Vegas Golf & Tennis in Garapan.

Entry fee per event is $8 for FILATA members and $15 for non-FILATA members. FILATA’s annual membership fee costs $10 per person and $15 per couple. Deadline for the submission of all entry forms is this Friday, Oct. 8, 5pm.

The entry fee entitles participants to an event T-shirt and a ticket to the awards banquet that will be held at the end of the tournament.

Entry forms can be submitted to any of the nine tournament directors: Alex Martin, Elmer Guzman, Hector Gutierrez, Art Lopez, Eli Buenaventura, Edwin Maratas, Dino Jones, Joe Motto, and Dr. Mohammad Ashraf.

The tournament draw will be held this coming Saturday, Oct. 9, 7pm at the AMP tennis courts. The draws will be posted at the AMP bulletin board and FILATA is advising participants to regularly check it for updates.
