With a combined overall net score of 60.4, Richard Jones, Frank Moniz, Bob Hudkins, and Merle Hudkins topped the field of 34 teams this past weekend to secure first place in the 9th Annual Club at the Hyatt Golf Classic at the Kingfisher Golf Links.

On Saturday, Sept. 25, strikers, slicers, and shankers all had a shot at wining the tournament, as proven by the combined gross score of 70 for the winning foursome. Twenty-two other teams finished the one-day event with a lower score than the champions, but the members of Team 26 were equipped with the highest handicap in the tournament—a 9.6.

The team of Jim Staal, Joy Staal, Mark Swinton, and Mario Taitano finished five strokes ahead of the winners, with a 65 on the links, but was only able to manage second place because of their zero handicap.

In third place, Reuben Hubbart, Derah Hubbart, Jack Mc Clure, and Don Dunlop finished with a net score of 66.2 after leaving the final hole with a gross score of 71.

There was a three-way tie for the lowest gross score of the tournament between the teams of Masood Karimipour, Andy Nepaial, Douglas Puckett, and Jess Wabol of Team 3, Hans Mickelson, Ron Hodges, Alan Ostergard, and Larry Bacon of Team 16, and Tim Goodwin, Pat Smith, Russ Quinn, and Harry Deal of Team 20, but only the latter finished within the top five of net scores.

The tournament featured a 4-person scramble format with a double Peoria handicap system that enabled every player with clubs to take home the grand prize.

To keep all of the players in the thick of things, the format used a best ball style of play, where after each shot, it was up to the team to decide which of their four balls that they played.

Unlike a typical golf outing, teams were able to purchase one kick and one throw for a donation of $20. Yet another departure from golfing etiquette, each team was allocated a cellular telephone provided by Verizon to distract opposing players without penalty.
