While the majority of students at Marianas High School were enjoying their lunch yesterday, members of Shag and Mwaliyas battled it out on the famed blue surface of the gymnasium, where Rocball legends are made.

Shag muscled out a dominating performance, as they piled on the points against the Mwaliyas to the tune of a 61-33 thumping. The S-men started early, taking the first set 16-7, but the Mwali’s rallied in the second to even up the set count a one apiece with the 15-12 reversal.

Heading into the third set, Mwaliyas had trimmed the deficit to just 22-28, but the players of Shag decided that it was time to get serious once again. The 19 tallies that the Shag put up in the third set were more than the points that the Mwaliyas compiled in the first, third and fourth sets combined.

After a 19-5 beating, the Mwaliyas ran into another Shag wall, dropping the fourth and final set by a score of 14-6.

Overall, neither team was able to score a goal, but Mwaliyas had three aces, one kee, and a xunk, while Shag had seven aces, 10 kees, and two xunks. Shag-man Mike Olaitiman had another quality performance, scoring an ace, a xunk, and three kees, but it was Kashi Kukkun who was named the Heavy Hitter. Kukkun scored three aces, two kees, and a xunk to lead Shag to an overall score of 61-33.

The action of Rocball continues this afternoon at MHS court, as all of the aces, xunks, kees, and goals return under the supervision of the game’s creator Jim Feger at 12:30pm.
