CRM soliciting comments on road improvement projects
The Coastal Resources Management Office will be conducting a second public meeting today to solicit input from the public, dive operators, beach users, and private land owners about possible improvements to Laulau Bay Road and Obyan Beach Road.
The meeting will be held at the Dandan Elementary School cafeteria today, Sept. 30, at 6:30 pm.
The meeting will include an introduction to the project, initial public input, results from preliminary field surveys, stormwater control concepts and interim measures, as well as time for questions, answers and feedback.
Both Laulau Bay and Obyan Beach are considered prime recreational areas for local residents, tourists and divers from all around the world. Unfortunately, both areas experience severe erosion and some flash flooding during most storms and especially during typhoons. The flooding makes the road to Laulau Bay impassable in some areas and the erosion at both locations damages corals and affects the quality of the coastal environment.
The CRMO is encouraging the public, dive operators, beach users, and private land owners to participate “and be part of the solution making process.“
Questions regarding this public meeting can be directed to CRMO at 664-8306.
