Though the rain has put a few local sporting events on hold the last couple of days, the Rocball rangers were at it again yesterday, as the contest between Shag and Bwii Bwii was held within the air-conditioned comforts of the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

The young gunners of Bwii Bwii were unable to withstand the overpowering Shag in four sets of action, as the cagey veterans escaped with a 57-38 victory despite dropping the second and third matches.

Led by Myron Laniyo, Shag looked unbeatable in the first set. They took command from the very beginning and never let Bwii Bwii up for air as Shag waltzed to a 16-4 opener over the first-year team.

Bwii Bwii refused to give in, bouncing back to eke out a win in the second set 15-14, widening the gap a bit in the third with the 16-11 win. As they headed into the fourth and final set, Shag had lost twice, but still held the overall lead 41-35.

Amidst a rapid flurry of scores, the experienced monsters of Rocball evened up the set count by downing Bwii Bwii 16-3, well before the siren sounded for the kids return to class.

Overall, Bwii Bwii had two aces, five kees, and a pair of xunks, while Shag had nine aces, six kees, a xunk, and three goals. Mike Olaitaman scored two goals, while teammate Pat Tagabuel scored the other, but it was Laniyo who was named the game’s Heavy Hitter. Laniyo scored two aces, two kees, and a xunk to lead Shag to an overall score of 57-38.

The action of Rocball continues this afternoon at the MHS court, as the Ghasias Brothers and the Local Boys try to finish what they started on Monday. All of the aces, xunks, kees, and goals get underway at 12:30pm.
