CHC parking lot expansion project underway
To improve and provide more parking spaces at the hospital, the Department of Public Health said yesterday that its parking lot expansion project is now underway and is expected to be completed within eight months.
According to DPH Secretary James U. Hofschneider, the construction of the project will be handled by contractor AIC Marianas Inc.
“The length of project is due to the contractor’s scheduling as not to inconvenience CHC patrons and staff,” he said in a statement.
Hofschneider explained that, once complete, parking space at the Commonwealth Health Center will increase by 62 percent. The lot currently accommodates 232 parking spaces, with seven handicap parking spaces.
With the expansion, Hofschneider said an additional 146 spaces will be available, bringing the total parking spaces to 378.
Hofschneider said work has started on the western (lower) side of CHC facing the Chalan Pale Arnold Road and will be followed with work on the southern and eastern side (near Emergency entrance).
“CHC and the contractor will continue to keep the public informed on a regular basis as to the parking areas affected,” he said. “We ask the public for their patience and cooperation during this time and we have asked the employees to consider carpooling.”
