SSA: Blame it on the rain
With only a few hours remaining between the DCCA repairing the softball field yesterday afternoon and the first pitch of the 2004 Men’s Island Wide Slow Pitch League at the Oleai Sports Complex since mid-August, the skies opened up again to delay the resumption of underhanded arcs and out of the parks until tomorrow.
As long as the weather holds up, the Saipan Softball Association and its band of softball brothers will return to the Oleai field tomorrow night when Da Boyz take on Fadang in game one of a triple header. Buddz and the Freedom Air Flyers will match up in the second game, while the Brotherhoot and the Eliminators close out the “welcome back” night for the complex.
There are no games scheduled for tonight, but the men of the 2004 Island Wide Fast Pitch League will return to the ballpark next week when the Islanders will dial up a contest with Verizon, and the D-9ers pair up with the pummeling powers of Proa, on Tuesday, Sept. 14,
All of the games that were cancelled will be rescheduled for the end of the season. In the case of the underhanded flamethrowers, the league was to have already been finished two days ago, but a revised calendar has the season lasting midway through October.
The delay offers the boys of the DCCA an extra couple of days to get things set up before the players, families, and fans fill the once battered bleachers. They still have their work cut out for them, but before the drops began dropping, the crew removed the inverted bleaches from behind second base with a little help from the Saipan Mayor’s office.
“We called them this afternoon to see if they would be able to help us out and they came right down,” said Jonathan Tenorio of the DCCA.
There are still a handful of evacuees currently residing inside the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium, but day by day, the island, the facilities, and the people seem to on the mend.
