Fun & Games tops PBA Saturday Night League

Consistency.

It is a necessity in almost any sport when it comes to finding success, and proving to be the most consistent team in the Philippine Bowling Association Saturday Night League was Fun & Games, which rocketed to the top of the team standings en route to claiming the coveted championship crown.

The team, comprised of PBA Bowler of the Year Raymond Zapanta, Ruselle Zapanta, Ross Zapanta, Simon Manacop, Jerry Tan, Ador Dimaano, Roman Mamauag, and Ernie Villarin, dominated the 30th staging of the league and finished with a league-best 62-34 win-loss card.

The team also scooped first place in all the Special Team Awards, including High Game Scratch (1,704 total pins), High Game with Handicap (1,153 total pins), High Series Scratch (3,008 total pins), and High Series with Handicap (3,245 total pins).

They were recognized last Sunday at the PBA awards ceremony, receiving their championship trophies as well as about $960—$750 from first place in team standings—for their impressive efforts.

Finishing a close second in the team standings was Seabridge Inc./Micronesian Brokers Inc. with a 59 1/2-36 1/2 record, while SBC/J’s Restaurant placed third with a 57 1/2-38 1/2 card. For their part Seabridge Inc./Micronesian Brokers Inc. was also awarded $400 while SBC/J’s Restaurant received $300.

Missing Pin and Saitech rounded up the Top 5 with records of 52-44 and 51-45.

Seabridge Inc./Micronesian Brokers Inc. took second in both the High Game Scratch and High Game with Handicap with 1,036 and 1,150 total pins, adding another $60 in prizes to their corner.

SBC/J’s Restaurant took second in the High Series Scratch with 2,857 total pins while Missing Pin was runner-up in the High Series with Handicap with 3,230 total pins. Each received $40.

Also participating in the league were M & D Airconditioning, L & T’s Finest, Mc Asia, Friends, D’JAR, Budweiser, and Aims Plus/Natcar.

Raymond Zapanta topped the High Series with Handicap and the High Series Scratch in the individual category with 773 and 731 total pins.

Alex Castro followed in the High Series with Handicap with 754 while Raymond Angeles had 665 for second in the High Series Scratch.

Rusty Musca topped the High Game with Handicap with 303 total pins while Castro again placed second with 288.

Musca also took the High game Scratch award with 288 pins while Raul Dumapit was runner-up with 266.

The High Average award went to Mark “The Shark” Halstead with 194.89, while Jess Rebusada placed second with 189.65.

For his part, Ruselle Zapanta was recognized as the Most Improved Bowler after adding another 15.41 pins to his average.

All winners, including winners of the PBA Classified and Bowler of the Year tournaments were recognized during the awards ceremony held at the Ysabella Restaurant in San Jose.
