Due to increased passenger demand, Asiana Airlines will provide four additional flights during the Chusok holiday season.

Also known as the Korean Thanksgiving, Chusok will be celebrated from Sept. 27 to 29. Including the weekends, the holiday season will last five days, allowing more Korean people to go on trips.

Jung Ah Kim, supervisor of Asiana’s Saipan regional sales office, said the extra flights will be operated on Sept. 24, 26, 27, and 29. They will be serviced by an Airbus 322 aircraft, which can accommodate up to 177 passengers.

“A lot of people will be traveling during the Chusok holiday season. All of the flights are now fully booked,” said Kim.

The flights will leave Inchon International Airport in Seoul at 9:30pm and arrive on Saipan at 3am the following day.

The extra flights bring to two the number of Asiana flights from Inchon, Seoul everyday, starting Sept. 23 through Sept. 30.

Asiana currently operates 10 regular flights weekly between Seoul and Saipan. The airline provides two flights every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

The regular flights are serviced by Boeing 767 aircraft, which has a seating capacity of 260 passengers.

Chusok, the most important of all Korean holidays, marks the full harvest moon festival. It is held annually on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. This year’s Chusok falls on Sept. 28.

The 14th and 16th of the 8th lunar month, however, are also declared holidays, giving people a total of three days off and allowing them to visit their hometowns.
