The Department of Public Safety Boating Safety Section will be performing courtesy safety inspections prior to the 20th Annual Saipan Fisherman’s Association Tournament for all whom wish to join the annual event.

Traditionally, the week prior to the tournament is “Boating Safety Week,” but this year the Boating Safety Section was hampered from performing the courtesy safety inspections in the two weeks prior to the tournament by all of the foul weather that the NMI has experienced.

Beginning today, and continuing through to the tournament dates, officers will check your boat from bow to stern free of charge. The Boating Safety Officers will feature three displays in addition to the inspections. On Wednesday, Sept. 8, the officers will be at Sugar Dock. On Thursday, Sept. 9 they will move to Fishing Base, while on Friday, Sept. 10, the display will be at Smiling Cove.

Boaters do not even have to leave the comfort of their homes, as an inspection is just a phone call away. Those interested need only call the Boating Safety Section for an officer to go to their homes, or wherever they have their boat, to make sure that they have the proper safety equipment prior to the tournament.

To schedule a safety inspection, contact the DPS Boating Safety Section by calling 664-9180/1/2/3/4. Those boaters who have completed a courtesy inspection prior to the original scheduled tournament will be honored.
