CNMI Juniors fall to the Canadians
After evening their record at 1-1 with an 8-2 win against the SHAPE/Waterloo Little League All-Stars, the CNMI Junior League All-Stars experienced another setback when they fell to the Canadian team from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan by an 8-3 score.
On Wednesday night in Taylor, MI, the boys of the Asia-Pacific were once again on the losing end of the stick as the boys from the “Great White North” were able to capture their first win of the tournament.
The Junior League All-Stars of the CNMI fell to the representatives of the Paraguana Little League 1-0 in their first action of the Junior League World Series in heartbreaking fashion. The boys returned to action in their second game with a win over Belgium. Now losing twice in the tournament, the boys have to get some help from the other teams. If the CNMI can beat Mexico in their next game, they still have a shot at second place.
At 3-0, the Latin American representatives are all alone in first place. Right behind them at 2-0 is Mexico, followed by the CNMI and Canada at 1-2. Belgium is out of the running at 0-3, but could possibly play a part in helping the CNMI.
The boys from the Northern Marianas need to win against Mexico to even their record at 2-2 and drop the Guaymas Little League All-Stars to 2-1. They would then have to cheer for the Latin American team to beat the Mexicans so they too would fall to 2-2, and hope that Belgium knocks off Canada to have them fall to 1-3.
That’s a lot to ask for, but that’s what they need to get a chance at avenging the early 1-0 loss to the Paraguana Little League All-Stars in the International Final.
Although they are in a difficult spot, with a little luck, Jesse Borja, Shane Yamada, Jesus Iguel, Vince Sablan, Martin Pangelinan, Josh Arriola, Joe Salas, Thorn Sablan, Ryan Ada, Jonathan Salas, Kevin Babauta, Nicolas San Nicolas, Nunu Kapileo, Juan Tenorio, manager Sonny Flores, coaches Tony Celis and Ray Sablan could find themselves in the next round.
This afternoon they play against the Guayamas Little League team from Sonora, Mexico at 1am Saipan time. The International Finals will be Friday, August 20 at 5pm, and the championship game between the USA and International finalists will be on Saturday, August 21 at 5pm.
In related news, Oliver Secharmidal, Antoine Allen, Tony Palacios, Franco Flores, Ben Tasikan, Tyrone Omar, Dan Concepcion, Jeff Saures, Zachary Concepcion, Derrick Babauta, Jesse Garcia, Thomas Guerrero, Many Ada, and Peter Tenorio will be out to get their first victory in the Senior League World Series when they meet the winless team from Bangor, ME. The game were scheduled to take place yesterday morning at 10am Saipan local time, but they will now face the Dade City All-Stars from Florida this morning at 7am Saipan time.
