Bogus cop arrested by real lawmen
A man pretending to be a policeman fell into the hands of real lawmen after he hit a person with a baton.
Nineteen-year-old Tarimai Joseph K. Yangetmai faces criminal charges for attacking the group of Nashir Uddin, 34, at a Garapan pavilion early Tuesday morning.
Police spokesman Pete C. Muna said Uddin was having a drinking spree with his wife, Sharon, and friends Kazi Atiqul and Mohammed Aminoor Islam, when the suspect parked his car nearby.
According to Muna, Uddin approached the vehicle that was driven by the suspect. Uddin asked the suspect if he was looking for someone.
Yangetmai, however, replied sarcastically by reportedly saying: “Why? Don’t you know [that] I am an off-duty police officer? [Do] you want me to arrest you?”
Police said Yangetmai suddenly grabbed a baton and hit Uddin. The Bangladeshi struggled for the baton, but the suspect managed to hold on to it. He fled the scene when he saw one of Uddin’s companions calling for police assistance by telephone.
As Yangetmai fled the scene, he allegedly said: “I am gong to shoot you guys! I am [an] off-duty police [officer].”
The suspect came back later and parked his car near the pavilion, where lawmen arrested him after being identified by Uddin’s group as their assailant.
