For many Korean honeymooners, the Northern Marianas remains their destination of choice.

The Marianas Visitors Authority yesterday said many Koreans like the islands as a wedding and honeymoon destination, gracing the CNMI’s campaign in the recent WEDDEX, a popular trade show in South Korea.

WEDDEX targets Korean couples and honeymooners searching for destinations. The trade exhibition is held annually, with the recent one taking five days from Aug. 4 to 9.

“The Marianas was well represented and many were interested in the breathtaking sceneries the CNMI has to offer for the wedding and honeymooners who choose the Marianas as their destination of choice,” the MVA said in a media release.

Representing the MVA in the show were board directors Yoichi Matsumura and Byung Kyu Park, managing director Vicky Benavente, marketing manager Wayne Pangelinan, and marketing assistant Christopher Kaipat.

The CNMI showcased an exhibit on specific wedding and honeymoon amenities offered on the islands, including details on photography services, bridal gowns, floral shops, transportation companies and optional tours.

The MVA also hosted dinner and media conferences for trade and media representatives to boost the CNMI’s tourism campaign.

Thousands of guests regularly attend the trade show, which is held during spring and fall.

Korea remains one of the CNMI’s major tourist market, with July visitors’ tally reaching 7,298. The market continued to be resilient despite the pullout of Korean Airlines’ direct flights between Saipan and Korea.
