The winner of the “Name The Mall and Design-a-Logo” contest will be known next week, press secretary Peter Callaghan said yesterday.

He said that a five-member panel of judges is expected to meet this week and submit its decision shortly.

The announcement would be made by Gov. Juan N. Babauta probably next week on Tuesday, he said.

Based on the procedure, the judges, who come from the Marianas Visitors Authority, the Japan-Saipan Travel Association, the Hotel Association of Northern Mariana Islands, Saipan Chamber of Commerce, and the Saipan Economic Development Council – will first choose their top 10 entries.

From the shortlist will be chosen the top five, and from there, the top one choice.

“To make it (to the top choices), the entry has to appear in every judge’s list,” said Callaghan.

He said the community’s interest on the contest “has been overwhelming.”

The contest, which allows people to submit their choice of name and logo design for the newly constructed Garapan Park, began last July 2.

Callaghan said the Office of the Governor received over 100 entries.

The deadline for the submission of entries closed Monday afternoon.

The contest winner will receive $1,000 and “bragging rights for generations,” said Callaghan.
