Brick paving fundraiser still ongoing

The sale of specially engraved bricks, which proceeds would be used to support the construction of the Visitors Center at the American Memorial Park in Garapan, is still ongoing, according to fundraiser chair Alex Sablan.
During an interview Tuesday, Sablan disclosed that about a quarter of the 5,500 bricks have already been sold and will continue to be on sale.
According to Sablan, the project should get a boost as soon as members of the fundraising committee return from off-island trips.
“Several key member of the committee are currently not here, but as soon as they return, we would meet and address how to push the fundraiser forward,” he said.
The fundraiser features the sale of bricks, which cost $60 apiece, which will be laid along 1st Street in Garapan from the Department of Public Safety Fire Station to the intersection at the entrance of the Hyatt Regency Saipan. Sablan further noted he expects the construction of the pathway to begin sometime this December.
Earlier, Sablan said the fundraiser is unique compared to other fundraisers as it provides a way for people to leave their legacy through purchasing the bricks.
“Individuals purchasing bricks will have their names engraved onto them,” he said. “Their names, or the names of their loved ones, or whosever name they chose to be engraved, will also be placed on the Wall of Honor at the Memorial Center. It’s a way for them to leave their legacy for the future generation to see.”
Corporate pavers are also available for companies willing to contribute. Companies will have their corporate logos engraved onto an 8×8 block, which cost $500.
The pathway will also feature a block that will be dedicated to the Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association’s Hall of Fame, with each inductee having his or her name engraved.
It was also learned that the pathway would compliment the Beach Road Pathway, as it will also have the land posts, benches, and florals.
