LITERARY NOOK
A Trump Termination Trilogy
Farewell Lying Loser Leader
“Parting is all we know of heaven and all we need of hell.”
—Emily Dickinson (Dec. 10, 1830 – May 1, 1886)
Farewell falsifier liar your right wing reign doth close
from tragic tweeter tales to wily wiles farewell
your negativity, impeachment failed to expel
angry arguments that stunk up the nation’s nose.
Your alternate reality and poor judgement shows
you slowed your departure not done very well
books keep pouring out your sordid story to tell
tax fraud, cheating, insults, now the world knows.
When gone and you’ll go no matter how hard you try
it can’t be avoided regardless what you do or say
the entire world is watching you with an open eye
and millions of Americans will sing Oh Happy Day!
Few will shed tears, it is your last hurrah, so bye bye
America is better now, “great again”, come what may.
45 Departs, 22,000 Lies, and False Starts
On your last day in the White House Oval Office
when hardworking staff lay dust covers on chairs
what about the place you called ‘a dump’ will you miss?
are you paranoid about presidential portrait stares?
compare them with your self-centered chaotic time
and positive laws they signed with a presidential pen
think about the ‘wall,’ migrant children, swamp slime
about the elected national leader you have never been
then come up with some last minute departing thought
how your reign withstood your temper tantrums and rage
a more sordid time in office has never been wrought
but since you lost the race us poets need not prove
any mocking or sarcastic style for your last move.
Your parting is sweet and sour. Let us party tomorrow!
Trumpty Dumpty’s Last Fall, Autumn 2020
Too many tweets with very little common sense
using your thumbs to make ridiculous commands
staff and cabinet bail out with little help from Pence
he and other sycophants lip synch to beat the band
then fraudulent tax cheat, as tacky tweeter terrorist
in arguments and clashes with world leaders you look
foolish for not looking at or reading a daily briefing list
seldom turning or opening pages of any brief or book
a national disgrace, a present danger to our democracy
as you take final steps down the White House stairs
part and parcel of your laughable lying legacy will be
failure, freaking out, faking it on many national affairs
lack of a moral compass or showing any empathy at all
your puerile play is over, time for your demise and fall.
Note from the author: Readers, please note, I wrote this sonnet trilogy last October 2020 while visiting my older brother, who is in poor health, and my two sisters in upstate New York. After flying over and with fear of COVID-19 death for all four of us due to our respective ages, I quarantined for two weeks in the house I grew up in. I saved these sonnets as 45’s farewell poems. We can see he’s not going “gentle into that good night.” I’m counting the days to the 2021 inauguration. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
