A commitment to education
The Public School System, its management, and leadership have been working with the CNMI Board of Education as the policy making and governing body in finding ways to mitigate the shortfall in funding resulting from the current fiscal state of the Commonwealth.
As your Commissioner of Education, I understand that the recent decisions have caused great discord and fear. While we struggled with the reality of an inadequate budget, decisions had to be made to avoid payless paydays. We have not, and will not stop trying to find every avenue to leverage resources to alleviate our burden. We are hopeful and confident that as one family we can pull through this together. I appeal for everyone’s support, understanding, and patience and honor your voice and right to speak it.
Our leadership maintains a transparent approach to every difficult decision that had to be made. The school district reassures everyone that we will engage in extensive consultation and do our due diligence to reach out to stakeholders including our teachers and parents, as well as our leaders in both the Executive and Legislative branches of government to find answers and solutions.
As our federally-mandated external (independent) audits would indicate, the last five school years validate the CNMI Public School System’s strict adherence to the highest management of financial resources and strict accountability.
As such, the Public School System continues to believe in the process of providing an opportunity for every stakeholder to engage and be part of conversations and dialogue that involves our children’s education and the future of our school community as a whole.
The Public School System reaffirms its commitment that the children of this Commonwealth deserve the optimum educational opportunities for them to succeed, with the support of our dedicated public school staff and personnel. (PR)
