How did it come to this point?

This is in response to an article that appeared in the July 16 edition of the Tribune.

I’m a little confused. Perhaps someone out there can help me. I thought that front and rear license plates were already required. When I moved up here from Guam in September 2003, I went to the BMV to obtain my CNMI license plates. I was given two plates and I promptly put both front and rear plates on my vehicle. I haven’t gone out and counted, but I would guess that more than half of the vehicles I see on the road have both front and rear plates already. So given the fact that a new law has been signed, does that mean there never was a law that required it before?

Now what disturbs me about the topic of this article is that the DPS commissioner “just found out that we ran out of plates already.” Who at the BMV let this happen? Wasn’t there anyone that noticed, say like a month or so ago, that they were running low on plates? Whoever is in charge at the BMV, shame on you for letting this happen! Why did you leave your boss hanging out to dry by just now telling him that you were out of license plates? And another thing; why is there a shortage of registration forms? Again, shame on you BMV for letting it get to this point!

License plates and registration forms are two of the most important items that the BMV uses on a daily basis and you are out of one and low on the other. If a private business operated that way, they wouldn’t be in business very long! Of course, I don’t have all the facts, so forgive me if I make some assumptions. My guess is that more than likely, someone at the BMV wasn’t doing what they are paid to do. Again, this is just my opinion; and you know what they say about opinions!
