A 31-year-old male was arrested by the Department of Public Safety Thursday morning after allegedly assaulting another at a poker establishment on Garapan.

According to DPS acting public information officer Captain Pete C. Muna, the suspect, Ken Jessy, was leaving the 888 Poker establishment at about 9:10am, when he met the victim, 35-year-old Mohammed Sharif.

The suspect greeted the victim, who in turn greeted him back.

“As he [victim] greeted him back, the suspect suddenly punched him on the left cheek without any apparent reason and walked away,” Muna said.

The victim went inside the establishment and told the cashier to report the incident to the police. He then went outside to pursue the suspect. He met up with Jessy at Island Mart, a nearby retail store, and informed the suspect that police have been notified and that he should wait for responding officers.

“At this point, the suspect walked up to the victim and punched him again on the face,” Muna said. “The victim backed up and the suspect picked up a rock the size of a softball and threw it at him.”

The rock reportedly hit the victim, resulting in a bleeding forehead.

“After he was hit, he turned around and the suspect picked up another stone and threw it at him, this time hitting him behind his right ear,” Muna said.

The victim sustained an inch-long laceration on the left side of his forehead. He was treated by EMS personnel at the scene and was taken to the Commonwealth Health Center for further treatment.

The suspect was arrested and taken to the Adult Correction Facility where he was booked and detained. (Shan Seman)
