Municipal council honors Calvo
The 7th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council recently adopted a resolution congratulating Rosmic Demapan Calvo, a freshmen at the University of Washington, for being nominated to the National Society of Collegiate Scholars in the United States.
The National Society of Collegiate Scholars in the United States inducts outstanding first and second year college students in the nation.
The University of Washington National Society of Collegiate Scholar chapter president Catherine Song and chapter advisor and academic counselor Helen Obradouich have congratulated Calvo for her academic accomplishments at the University of Washington.
William J. Crowe Jr., retired Naval Admiral and the chairman of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Honoring Board Regents and the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain, also congratulated Calvo for her nomination into the Society.
Calvo was s Saipan National Forensic League champion who represented the CNMI with five other students during the 2002 National Forensic League competition in the United States.
She was an “A” honor student at the Marianas Baptist Academy and participated in the Junior Statesmen of American Summer Program, where she attended classes at Stanford University and Yale University.
Calvo is the daughter of Carlos and Mary Ann Demapan Calvo.
“The Council and the people of the CNMI are extremely proud of…Calvo’s high achievement and academic accomplishments and for bringing honor and distinction to the people of the CNMI and her family on Guam and Saipan,” part of the resolution reads.
The resolution was certified by municipal council chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chair David A. Indalecio and attested by secretary Alexander P. Sablan.
