Eleven positions open at NMC
The Northern Marianas College has announced at least 11 new job openings, including the position for president.
The announcement, however, posted at the NMC website, lists only one opening for teacher at the College Lab School when it actually needs three.
CLS parents earlier expressed great concern over the lack of teachers at the school for the fall program. They said the school, which offers kindergarten to 8th grade classes, has only two available teachers handling the lower grade levels.
In its announcement, NMC said it is looking for a CLS instructor to handle K4-K5 with an annual salary of $22,427 to $38,394 for a 10-month term.
Other open positions are three nursing instructors at $25,962 to $44,916 a year; marine science and technology instructor/coordinator at $28,803 to $49,356 annually; American sign language instructor/interpreter at $24,881 to $43,877; administrative program coordinator III ($21,338 to $29,626), budget technician, $19,428 to $26,975), director of the School of Education ($31,229 to 49,919), and business consultant II (428,229 to $49,919).
NMC noted, though, that all positions listed are currently frozen following the NMC Board of Regents’ decision to freeze hiring last February.
Although recruitment is ongoing, NMC said, “hiring will commence possibly by the end of 2004.”
Even the hiring of a president depends on the availability of funds. “This position may be filled upon the availability of funding,” cautioned the NMC human resource office.
The NMC announced the job vacancy for president last month following a recommendation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
The college is currently headed by interim president Antonio Deleon Guerrero, who assumed the position after president Kenneth Wright resigned in February this year.
Six applications have reportedly been submitted for the top position. The NMC initially set the deadline for the submission of applications last June 25 but extended it up to this Friday.
One of the six applicants is former NMC program director Jack Angello, Ed D.
Sources said other contenders include public safety commissioner Edward Camacho and U.S. mainland-based Jess Camacho.
Angello said that, if he is chosen for the job, he would immediately order the sale of the La Fiesta complex and get on with the 1998 NMC Business Center expansion program.
