Rotary season to start next week
The organizers of the Rotary Club of Saipan Summer Youth Basketball League have decided to push back the date of the season opening tip-off due to the effects of Typhoon Tingting and the Micronesian Basketball Tournament.
After holding a meeting last week to discuss several topics relating to the inflatable orange rock, league officials came to the conclusion not to begin until the CNMI teams return from the MBT in Guam.
According to league coordinator Elias Rangamar, all of the fastbreaks, double crossovers and pick-and-rolls will get underway on Wednesday, July 14, at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium. As of yet there is no schedule because not all of the teams are confirmed in the league due to the resolve of the organizers to improve the league’s level of fundamental skills.
Rangamar pointed out that it is unfortunate that only half of the league’s coaches attended the mandatory coaching clinic. He said BANMI would run another clinic for coaches who didn’t attend last time.
The Rotary league is some of the finest basketball on island, and the players are playing for more than just a trophy or a title.
