SML playoffs to resume tomorrow
Typhoon Tingting is still preventing the boys in the Saipan Major League from getting in the swing-swing, but now it’s not so much due with the skies above as it has to do with the lights from above.
Though a break in the weather has allowed the field to dry out and to return to acceptable levels of playability, reports that several of the lights were pointing in the wrong direction were enough for league coordinator Tony Rogolifoi to push back the start another couple of days.
“I actually wanted to get the games going again by Monday, but I need to have my boys take a look at the lights to make sure that we are good to go,” Rogolifoi said.
The driving winds and stinging rains of Tingting inflicted some damage to the Oleai Sports Complex, but mainly there was just the inconvenience of being powerless for about three days.
The second game of the first round of the playoffs have been rescheduled for a 6:30pm start tomorrow night at Francisco M. Palacios baseball field, when the second place Brewers will try to end the series against the third place Pirates and advance to the finals with the defending champion Northern Yankees.
The first game of the Saipan Major League baseball playoffs was completed Wednesday evening, June 28, as the Miller Lite Brewers sank the Pirates 13-3. Since then the weather is being somewhat less than its usually cooperative self.
The Pirates have had plenty of time to think about what they need to improve upon, so it should prove to be a closer contest between the two sluggernauts. Unfortunately for the black and gold, the Brewers have had more than enough time for their starting pitchers to rest up before a pivotal Game 2.
