SMF-Seabridge and Visminda-Country House encountered little trouble in dispatching separate rivals Friday night in the continuation of the 2004 UFO-San Miguel Cup at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

In the first game, SMF leaned on a balanced scoring attack in blasting Laguna-GEC Pawnshop 98-80.

With seven different players making it to the scoring column, SMF took a 20-10 edge after the first quarter.

Giovanni Pardinan’s boys continued to hum in the second and stretched their lead to 19 points, 49-30, at the half.

There was still no sign of any comeback after the 10-minute intermission as SMF poured it on and after three quarter of play was ahead 67-44.

It was all over but the shouting as the fourth quarter got underway. SMF players continued to play perfect team ball, while Laguna was a one-man army with shooter Ed Palma trying to shoot his team back into the ballgame.

Six players from SMF scored 7 points or better led by Jimmy Sison’s 19 points. But it was Leo Itaas who took home the MVP of the game plum after pumping in 18 points, hauling down 6 rebounds, and stealing the ball four times.

Palma led all scorers with 20 points, while Leo Barrios added 16 for Laguna.

In the second game, Visminda pummeled a hapless LIPS-JAM Construction, 101-65, to record its third straight victory of the young season.

Center Ed Cosino paced six Visminda players in double figures with 19 points. It was mighty mite Pando Muleta, however, who was named the game’s best player after filling up the stats sheet with 12 points, 5 assists, and 4 steals.

Jojo Guinto was the highpoint man for LIPS with 18 points on top of 8 rebounds.
