Halstead wins Thursday Night high average
Mark Halstead rom-ped away with the most serious hardware of the Thursday Night League during the awards night held last July 1 at the Capitol Bowling Center.
The 39-year-old southpaw took home the High Average award of the tenpin bowling tournament’s 15th season after rolling 193.38 pinfalls a game.
Richard Leong and former youth bowler Simon Manacop finished a far second and third with averages of 186.2 and 185.09, respectively.
Aside from the High Average plum, Halstead also bagged the High Game Scratch award (269). Youth bowler Ruselle Zapanta and Milo Orallo (267) were tied at second and third.
The High Game with Handicap category was won my Oralla (295) with Zapanta a close second (287). Leong ruled the High Series Scratch (694), while Zapanta copped second (667).
High Series with Handicap belonged to Zapanta (751) followed by Leong (742). Paul Pangelinan was named the Most Improved Bowler of the season after jacking up his game average by 20.46 pins.
In the women’s division, Lynn Teregeyo captured the High Average award with her 157.02 per game norm. Second place was Ron Cal (155.24) and third place went to Malou Cabigao (153.78).
Teregeyo also did a Halstead by topping the High Game Scratch (217). But she got one up over the men’s High Average champion by also winning the High Game with Handicap (252), which she shared with Gigi Zapanta.
High Series Scratch for the women belonged to Elena Soll (564). She also won the High Series with Handicap award (684), while the lady bowler that showed the most improvement throughout the course of the season was Yolly Cayetano (11-pinfall improvement).
The Philippine Bowling Association led by its president Jess Rebusada runs the Thursday Night League. Other officers of the PBA are vice president Milo Orallo, secretary Rene Cabigao, treasurer Ross Zapanta, and auditor Bert Travilla.
