Sports events were cancelled left and right as Typhoon Tingting rendered venues unplayable or without power last week.

Organizers of the 2nd Annual Escape from Managaha Island torpedoed the planned crossing from the tourist hotspot to Hafa Adai Beach Hotel last June 26 after support craft had trouble dealing with the waves.

On Sunday, the 2nd Annual NMC Foundation Open scratched its second round after the course at Kingfisher Golf Links was flooded by the typhoon’s heavy rains the night before.

Over at the American Memorial Park, FILATA put off the quarterfinals and semifinals of the Century Insurance Co. Tennis Classic doubles competition after Tingting rendered the tennis courts unplayable.

In baseball, both the playoffs of the Saipan Major League and the District Championships of the Major and Junior divisions of the Saipan Little League were postponed also because of the downpour.

The 2004 season of the Rotary Club of Saipan Summer Youth Basketball League was also put on hold indefinitely following Monday’s cancellation of its kick-off.
